Children are warmly welcome at Warragul Anglican Church.  During the 9.45 am service we have a child-friendly zone at the side of the church equipped with toys and puzzles for little people, and chairs for their parents or carers, and there’s a space for nursing mothers, which doubles as a retreat if someone needs some quiet.  The toilet has a nappy change station, half-sized toilet, potty, and of course there’s a step so small people can reach the basin!

Children are intentionally included in worship for the first 15 minutes of the 9:30 am Sunday service.  Then we have a song (or sometimes a short talk) and a prayer with the kids, before they move to their age-based program, SALT Club.  On the first Sunday of each month they participate in Holy Communion with the whole congregation before moving to their SALT Club group.  Sometimes children join the adults for an all-in service, and participate in Bible readings, prayers, songs and skits.

There are four SALT Club groups:  Sparkies for children 2 to 4 years old; Fireflies for Toddler Bible book coverchildren in Prep and Grade 1;  Comets for Grades 2 to 4; and Illuminators for Grades 5, 6 and Year 7.  The Sparkies have a tailored programme of craft, music and Bible stories based on Gilbert Beers ‘The Toddler’s Bible’ the Fireflies, Comets and Illuminators use a mix of Scripture Union UK’s excellent ‘Light’ material, CEP’s kids@church, and some material developed by our experienced leaders.   Two adults lead each group, and all our leaders undergo careful screening (including a criminal background check and Department of Justice Working with Children Check) before they are permitted to work with children at WAC.
