We Take Children’s Safety Seriously

We take the safety of the children, youth and vulnerable people in our care very seriously.

We therefore have a strict police of not permitting any adult to supervise, teach or mind our children unless they meet the following criteria:

  • They must have attended Warragul Anglican Church for at least 6 months
  • They must be interviewed by our Children’s Minister, Rev. Katie Peken
  • They must hold current Working With Children clearance, from the Victorian Department of Justice
  • They must be accompanied at all times by another adult who meets the same criteria

For people who want to work regularly with children or youth at Warragul Anglican Church, further criteria must be met:

  • They must have cleared a National Police Record Check or equivalent within the last three years, or since joining our team
  • They must submit a Safe Ministry Screening Questionnaire to the Anglican Diocese of Gippsland, listing all previous churches they have attended, and providing three character referees
  • They must attend a Safe Church Awareness Workshop within the first year, and then every three years that they continue to work with children or youth
People who want to minister with Warragul Anglican Church as a pastoral worker, for example visiting people who are unable to attend church, or those who are in hospital or aged care, must also complete  a series of clearances:

  • They must have attended, or been known to Warragul Anglican Church for at least 6 months
  • They must be appointed by our Rector, Rev. Philip Muston
  • They must hold current Working With Children clearance, from the Victorian Department of Justice
  • They must have submitted a Safe Ministry Screening Questionnaire to the Anglican Diocese of Gippsland, listing all previous churches they have attended, and providing three character referees
  • They must have attended a Safe Church Awareness Workshop within the past three years
