On 14th August, after the 9.30 service, Bishop John McIntyre opened the new Dulcie Harris Centre, our versatile new hall, kitchen and office complex – so named because it incorporates the old Dulcie Harris Kindergarten building. Everyone is delighted with the new space, and enjoying the sunny hall, access to play equipment, great new office facilities, and big convenient kitchen, and it was a joyous event, with an abundant morning tea to mark the occasion. The Youth leaders tried the kitchen out during Games Night on the Friday before, and produced these scrumptious mini-quiches for the celebration!

‘Mainly music’ really does go from strength to strength. The dedicated team members continue to draw in new people. Families are now asked to commit to a whole term rather than on a week by week basis.

The weekly programme consists of a range of musical activities using toys, instruments and movement to engage the children. Each week a story is read or told, and that often has a specific Christian message.

This term in mainly music we are continuing with rhyme and rhythm to help the children develop their understanding of the beat, the basis upon which all music is built. We also use our rhymes to encourage positive physical touch between parents and children. Hugh is particularly resilient to active participation but loves it when I turn him into a “tum tum drum”. Also this term our Think Spots are a time when we can introduce some of our mainly music support team. Each week I read a short introduction about one of our helpers and share with the group a pearl of wisdom from them.

Jill Dixon shared in the first week. She stated that it is never too late to say yes to God. Last week Bev Foster shared her foolproof three ingredient, muffins, equal parts self raising flour, milk, and cheese. Next week we’ll hear from Katie Peken.

This year we are celebrating Fathers’ Day with a special mainly music event. It is on Saturday the 27th of August at 5pm at the Warragul Anglican Church, and it is a pie night.

Firstly there will be a music session as per usual then we supply a dinner of pies, people can bring a dessert or plate of nibblies to share if they wish. This exciting event has no cost.

Everyone is welcome, church families and past mainly music families especially. There is no formal RSVP: just show up on the night.

A series of studies based on the Gospel of John, and exploring the contrast between law – which is what many people mistakenly believe Christianity is all about – and grace – the gift of love, forgiveness and welcome that we haven’t earned, but which God freely offers. All are welcome – come along and find out what makes Good Friday so good! Meeting at 7:15 pm on Sunday evenings, Dan & Kerrie Armstrong’s, 12 McClure Street, Drouin; for more information call 03 5625 3391.

An excerpt from the series:

“I know a woman who lives by grace.

When she sees a beggar in the streets, she does not have a discussion with herself about whether it is encouraging wrong behaviour to give to beggars, of whether the beggar will spend the money on the wrong things. She does not ignore him because he is dirty or smells, or is an embarrassment to the good name of the city in whose streets he sits and begs. She does not wonder what others might think of her if she bothers to stop and take notice of the beggar they seek to ignore or wish would go away. Such thoughts are the thoughts of those who are governed by law and correctness.

What she does is to stop and sit in the gutter with him. She finds out his name and discovers what he might need. It may be nothing more than a toothbrush or a sandwich. Then she goes and buys it for him and sits with him again. She spends time with him and greets him by name when she sees him again.

She is entirely unselfconscious about this. She is remarkable because she is growing in grace and truth. In every other way she is probably in most others’ eyes entirely unremarkable.”
